Why I’ve Stopped Chasing the “Perfect Mom”

For years, I secretly measured myself against a version of motherhood that only existed on Pinterest boards and in strangers’ Instagram posts.

For years, I secretly measured myself against a version of motherhood that only existed on Pinterest boards and in strangers’ Instagram posts. I wanted to be the mom who always packed organic snacks, kept a spotless home, and remembered every themed school day. But the truth is, real life is full of spilled juice, mismatched socks, and days when screen time saves our sanity. And I’m learning to love that version of me more than the one I thought I should be.

What finally changed wasn’t a new schedule or a magical planner—just perspective. My kids don’t care if the cupcakes are homemade or store-bought; they care that I show up. They don’t remember the mess, they remember the moments. Motherhood isn’t a performance, it’s a relationship. And it becomes a lot more joyful when we stop trying to win at something that was never meant to be a competition.
