Whenever someone asks me how I am able to read so much when I have two kids, I always inform that audiobooks are key to my success. I always have at least two books going at once, one “hard” copy and one audiobook. My audiobooks keep me company while I do so many things: the dishes, blow drying my hair, walking Teddy, driving to and from the 42897 places we need to be. I just love the audiobook experience. I started listening to audiobooks in January 2016 and it’s wild to see how far audiobooks have come since then. Publishers and authors have really invested in the quality of audiobooks and the production is night and day!

Sometimes I choose an audiobook because the subject matter interests me but I know I would not have the energy to read the book at the end of the night… and sometimes I choose an audiobook because of the specific narrator or cast of narrators… and sometimes I’m just in the mood.

Here are the best audiobooks I listened to in 2025:
THE GODDESS OF WARSAW by Lisa Barr
Narrated by one of the greats Jane Oppenheimer, this was an audiobook that I couldn’t stop listening to. I actually found myself finding things to do around the house for an extra excuse to put my headphones on and listen to just a chapter or two more.
THE FAVORITES by Layne Fargo
5/5 Stars
A fantastic book (a modern retelling of Wuthering Heights) and a wonderful audiobook with a full cast. It’s one of the best full cast audiobooks I’ve listened to since Daisy Jones and the Six.
HOW TO SLEEP AT NIGHT by Elizabeth Harris
4.5/5 Stars
I didn’t hear a lot of buzz around this book but I wish there had been more of it. I really enjoyed this very relevant story about what happens when politics come between partners.
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE by Elizabeth Strout
5/5 Stars
I was on a major Elizabeth Strout kick in 2025 and this was one of my favorite books of hers… and loved that it’s narrated by another audiobook great: Kimberly Farr.
WILD DARK SHORES by Charlotte McConaghy
5/5 Stars
Another full-cast audiobook that turned the novel into an immersive experience for me. I absolutely loved the story and loved how the narrators brought their chapters to life.
THERE’S ALWAYS THIS YEAR by Hanif Abdurraqib
5/5 Stars
One of the best books I read in general and a fantastic choice for an audiobook. Read by the author himself, it reads more like poetry than a memoir. Stunning writing and beautiful narration.
BROKEN COUNTRY by Clare Leslie Hall
4.5/5 Stars
I debated whether or not to read Broken Country or to listen to it and ultimately chose to listen. I got through a huge chunk of the book on a long drive and I swear I could have driven twice the length because I just couldn’t stop listening.
LUCKY NIGHT by Eliza Kennedy
4.75/5 Stars
Lucky Night is one of the most interesting books I’ve ever read and it works so well as an audiobook. It actually feels quite like a play– the story takes place over the course of one night– told in stream of consciousness. Give it a try if you want a book that feels a little different.
CARELESS PEOPLE by Sarah Wynn-Williams
4.5/5 Stars
I started one audiobook at the beginning of a long solo drive and didn’t love it and literally pulled my car over to find something new to listen to. I’m so glad I chose Careless People. It’s read by the author so you really get a first hand account of her experiences and you can pick up the nuances of her tone.
ATMOSPHERE by Taylor Jenkins Reid
4.5/5 Stars
One of the biggest hits of 2025 and I highly recommend the audiobook. There are multiple narrators, including Julia Whelan (IYKYK), and I could not stop. At the end I actually drove past my destination because I needed to keep listening. The anticipation was incredible.
CHALLENGER by Adam Higginbotham
4.5/5 Stars
Going off of my love for Atmosphere, and at the recommendation of one of my book-loving friends, I listened to Challenger next. I definitely couldn’t have gotten through a physical copy, but I listened to it like a podcast and loved it. It was fascinating.
THE COMPOUND by Aisling Rawle
4.5/5 Stars
If you’re not someone who normally listens to audiobooks but like watching Love Island, this might be a nice entry into the genre. It’s a fun, twisted read about a dystopian reality television show.
EVERYTHING IS TUBERCULOSIS by John Green
4.5/5 Stars
I just love when an author narrates their own book because it feels like you’re sitting down with them one on one. This is a topic that John Green is clearly passionate about so hearing his voice tell his own research and story was great.
HOW TO READ A BOOK by Monica Wood
5/5 Stars
Truly one of my favorite books of all time, especially for people who love to read. It’s a heartwarming, feel-good story about depth and second chances. Don’t judge a book by its cover. In this case, I don’t think it does it justice at all!
MAILMAN by Stephen Starring Grant
4.5/5 Stars
Another memoir read by the author and, again, it feels like you’re sitting down with him over a cup of coffee to hear his story of losing his job and becoming a rural mail carrier at the beginning of the pandemic.
