WHAT I READ IN JULY 2023

Here’s what I read during the month of July! Happy reading!

LOVE, THEORETICALLY by Ali Hazelwood

4/5 Stars

I’ve been hearing great things about Ali Hazelwood’s books and I’m so happy I got to finally see what the hype is all about. I really enjoyed this– it falls under the RomCom genre, which isn’t typically my favorite to read, but this was an absolute delight! It’s quippy and smart with real characters who face real issues. (With real jobs– I don’t know why it feels so rare to read a book where people have normal jobs!) It was a litttttttle long for me and some of the sex scenes seemed more graphic than necessary (in my opinion) but overall enjoyed it!

SAME TIME NEXT SUMMER by Annabel Monaghan

3.5/5 Stars

I loved Annabel Monaghan’s Nora Goes Off Script and was excited to pick up her next book. I will be honest and say that since I loved Nora Goes Off Script so much, I may have judged Same Time Next Summer a little more harshly than I would have? It’s hard to tell. I just didn’t find myself particularly engrossed or intrigued by the love story. It is a good beach read though if you just want to sit on the beach and read without having to commit to overly complicated plot lines or fussy characters!

A LIKELY STORY by Leigh McMullan Abramson

4/5 Stars

A Likely Story is about a complicated family including a famous author, his wife, and his daughter. It engrossed me from the very beginning. I enjoyed the themes and the writing and thought it tackled more than just romantic interests. I love a good story about a family who seems perfect on the surface but harbor deeper secrets under the surface.

FOURTH WING by Rebecca Yarros

4/5 Stars

Okay, okay!!! Everyone has been talking about Fourth Wing and I had to know what the hype was all about! I was told it was Hunger Games meets Harry Potter with some spice. I have tried fantasy books before and just couldn’t get into them and I struggled at the beginning with Fourth Wing. The something happened and I was hooked. I couldn’t put it down. So much so that I had to download the audiobook so I could listen to the book while I drove throughout the day and then switch back to my Kindle before bed! I definitely will be picking up the second book when it’s released in the fall.
