Almost all of my friends are either learning mahjong right now or actively playing. It’s totally taking over the suburbs. A couple of my friends have even started teaching and it’s just become this whole amazing thing. Honestly, I think we (women?) are all just craving things to do together that isn’t solely based around drinking or revolving around our kids. I highly recommend learning if you haven’t already– it’s such a good way to meet friends and socialize… and dust out the corners of your brain.
Of course, all the fun “things” for mahjong make it fun too. To be sure, you really don’t need much (you can probably get away with not having anything, but I recommend having your own card) since you can join in groups where the basics (tiles, racks) are provided. But, I won’t pretend like it isn’t fun looking for and finding cute accessories.
